We love playdough!
At Little Elms, one of our favorite things to do is to make playdough. And as we've been busy exploring autumn, we decided to have a go at making autumn themed playdough.

What we used & needed
- Plain flour
- Water
- Salt
- Food colouring or paint
- Vegetable Oil
- Bowl and Spoon
How we made our playdough
We add water first into the bowl and then added the food colouring and paint and mixed those together.
Next we added the salt and mixed it into the water.
Glitter was fun to add, next, it went everywhere!
We added a little bit of oil next and mixed it together,
Lastly, we added the flour. We keep adding until it forms together into a mould like shape.
We took it out of the bowl and rolled it until it formed into dough.
Let the fun begin!
WE LOVE PLAYDOUGH!
At first we gave the babies a variety of pumpkins with a small amount of paint and let them explore.
As the babies became more familiar with the feel of the paint and the new sensation they were exploring we added more colours to the canvas.
One of the babies really enjoyed exploring and he spent time manipulating the paint not only on the canvas but on the surrounding wall coverings too.
This baby enjoyed the sensation of the paint on his skin and fully emerged himself in the experience for 45 minutes.
The whole nursery observed this session with many of the older children keen to join in. Our next creative me session will involve the older children exploring the paints in a similar way to develop new knowledge and skills based around the investigation of art materials using senses and the world around us.
