It is a new term and the start of another academic year, here at Little Elms.
We have decided that we are going to embrace our creativity as a setting, developing an inside and outside Atelier. This will allow us the opportunity to investigate different media and materials. Our creative areas are all about learning and the process of creativity, not just being creative to have an end product. We really want to get stuck into focusing on our creativity and the chance to fully explore without limitation or boundaries.
This term we are focusing our creativity, in our outdoor environment and what we have growing in our garden and at our allotment. With our children leading our creative journey, we are allowing children to take time to explore different media. Today, we introduced oil pastels, a media none of us had ever investigated before.
We enjoyed having time to see what marks we could make, what colours we could use and what happened if we mixed two colours together. We spent ages exploring what types of marks we could make and allowed ourselves time to fully embrace a new media form.
On a hunt around the garden, we decided to focus our attention on Sunflowers.
S - "I love Sunflowers"
B - "Sunflowers remind me of the sun"
I - "Sunflowers are so big. They grow really big. They have beautiful petals and they smell so nice"
Using our oil pastels, we decided to draw our sunflowers.
S - "I can draw the yellow petals. Some are big and some are small"
B - "There is so many petals!"
I - "I can see the brown in the middle and the yellow outside. I drew lots and lots of leaves, they are green."
I wonder what we'll investigate next?
