It is a new term and the start of another academic year, here at Little Elms.
We have decided that we are going to embrace our creativity as a setting, developing an inside and outside Atelier. This will allow us the opportunity to investigate different media and materials. Our creative areas are all about learning and the process of creativity, not just being creative to have an end product. We really want to get stuck into focusing on our creativity and the chance to fully explore without limitation or boundaries.
This term we are focusing our creativity, in our outdoor environment and what we have growing in our garden and at our allotment. With our children leading our creative journey, we are allowing children to take time to explore different media. Today, we introduced oil pastels, a media none of us had ever investigated before.
We enjoyed having time to see what marks we could make, what colours we could use and what happened if we mixed two colours together. We spent ages exploring what types of marks we could make and allowed ourselves time to fully embrace a new media form.
On a hunt around the garden, we decided to focus our attention on Sunflowers.
S - "I love Sunflowers"
B - "Sunflowers remind me of the sun"
I - "Sunflowers are so big. They grow really big. They have beautiful petals and they smell so nice"
Using our oil pastels, we decided to draw our sunflowers.
S - "I can draw the yellow petals. Some are big and some are small"
B - "There is so many petals!"
I - "I can see the brown in the middle and the yellow outside. I drew lots and lots of leaves, they are green."
I wonder what we'll investigate next?
We love playdough!
At Little Elms, one of our favorite things to do is to make playdough. And as we've been busy exploring autumn, we decided to have a go at making autumn themed playdough.
What we used & needed
- Plain flour
- Water
- Salt
- Food colouring or paint
- Vegetable Oil
- Bowl and Spoon
How we made our playdough
We add water first into the bowl and then added the food colouring and paint and mixed those together.
Next we added the salt and mixed it into the water.
Glitter was fun to add, next, it went everywhere!
We added a little bit of oil next and mixed it together,
Lastly, we added the flour. We keep adding until it forms together into a mould like shape.
We took it out of the bowl and rolled it until it formed into dough.
Let the fun begin!
WE LOVE PLAYDOUGH!
At Little Elms, we've been busty noticing the changes in our outdoor environment and have taken an interest in these changes around us. We've been exploring and investigating Autumn in both our Outdoor and Indoor environments.
After going on an autumn hunt and finding different coloured leaves as well as different autumnal objects., we wondered what we could make.
After a little while, we decided to create our own autumn hats and adding a few different autumnal coloured materials we had.
Take a look at us creating our hats!
We love our Autumn Hats!
